Agronomy graduate students sweep awards at regional conference

Graduate students the agronomy department swept all three top awards in the poster competition at the 2014 Great Plains Soil Fertility Conference in Denver, March 4-5.

The first-place award went to Robert Florence. His poster, co-authored with Dave Mengel, professor of agronomy and soil fertility specialist, was "Phosphorus Soil Test Correlation and Calibration withSoybean."

Second place was awarded to Ray Asebedo. Asebedo’s poster, also co-authored with Mengel, was "Intensive Management of Wheat Using Sensors."

The third-place award went to Nate Dorsey. His poster, co-authored with Nathan Nelson, associate professor of agronomy; Allan Fritz, professor of agronomy; and Eric Adee, assistant professor of agronomy, was "Genetic Effects on Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Winter Wheat of the Great Plains."

The Great Plains Soil Fertility Conference is a function of the International Plant Nutrition Institute. There were posters from representatives of 10 universities and USDA research locations at the 2014 annual conference.
