Meet the K-State Campus Store team

Submitted by Maggie Stephens

The launch of the partnership with the K-State Student Union and the Follett Higher Education Group was official as of July 1. Julie Hamm, transition manager; Rhonda Darrow, K-State Campus Store manager; and David Phillips, assistant store manager, have been appointed to lead the K-State Campus Store team.

Hamm has been in retail for more than 30 years, first starting her professional career in specialty clothing retail before joining Follett in 2000. She has worked extensively in management and merchandising of various community college locations in Kansas and Nebraska before joining the Transitions Team in 2006. She has been part of many transitions, both large and small, and makes it a point to enhance the visual appearance of every store she works with.

Darrow brings more than 10 years of college bookstore experience to K-State as she has managed three different stores of various sizes for Follett. Most recently, she has been senior store manager at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb. The college is a very diverse, four-campus system that Darrow made feel like one campus by utilizing her relationship building skills. She is very excited to move to Manhattan and become a part of the community and the K-State family.

Phillips began his bookstore career as a student worker at Middle Tennessee State University in 2000. After graduating in 2004, he started working as a wholesale book buyer for Follett and Nebraska Book Co., traveling for high school and college book buy backs. In 2009, he joined Nebraska Books as a retail store manager and managed stores at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga; Nashville State Community College; and Tennessee Technological University. In December 2012, he left Nebraska Books for Follett as a field manager working primarily out of Middle Tennessee State University and Volunteer State Community College before accepting the position of assistant store manager in charge of textbooks at K-State in June 2013.

"All of us within the Follett Higher Education Group are honored to be selected as your partner in campus store management at Kansas State University and look forward to working with you and the K-State Student Union staff," said Kieran Keenan, vice president of store transitions.
