Men's Choir selected to perform for the National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference

Submitted by Julie Yu

The Kansas State University Men's Choir was chosen to perform at the National Collegiate Choral Organization, or NCCO, biannual conference in Charleston, S.C., Oct. 31 to Nov. 3.

A national committee based on representative recordings from the previous two years chooses 10 college and university choirs from North America. The K-State Men's Choir is the only men's choir chosen to perform in the history of the conference.

Joshua Oppenheim, assistant professor of music and co-director of choral studies, is excited about this selection.

"NCCO is an organization dedicated to scholarly activity in research and performance," Oppenheim said. "Being selected for a national conference presentation is a significant acknowledgment of the quality of the K-State Choral Music Program."

Three K-State choirs have been invited to perform at conferences in the past three years. The Women's Choir was chosen to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association Conference, or KMEA, in 2013, the Concert Choir was chosen to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Southwest Division Conference in Dallas in 2012; and the Men's Choir performed for the Kansas Music Educators Association Conference in 2011.
