K-State Wind Ensemble performs tonight

The Kansas State University Wind Ensemble will present a performance tonight at 7:30 p.m. in McCain Auditorium. Admission is free.

The premier wind band at K-State will peform works from composers David Gillingham, David Maslanka, Robert Denham and Mike Mower. Faculty soloists Steven Maxwell, tuba, and Karen Large, flute, will be featured performers with the ensemble.

The band will also present a world premier of a work writen to celebrate Kansas State's 150th anniversary and the 20th year of Frank Tracz as director of bands. The work is titled 'Bright Gleams a Beacon' and was composed by award-winning composer David Gillingham. The work is inspired by the university's alma mater with the title taken from the alma mater's third verse. Joining the band in this special performance is the Blue Valley Northwest Wind Ensemble directed by John Selzer and Adam Lundine.

The K-State Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Tracz.
