Course syllabi mandatory statements

Submitted by April Mason

Please direct inquiries to Susana Valdovinos, director of academic personnel, at svaldovi@k-state.edu.

Dear Deans, Department Heads, Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants,

A happy new year to you!

As we get ready to welcome the spring 2013 academic term, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to include in your course syllabi all the mandatory statements, and please consider including the suggested statements you will find at http://www.k-state.edu/provost/resources/teaching/course.html

Additionally, the spring 2013 final exam schedule is posted at the following URL: http://courses.k-state.edu/spring2013/information/xam.htm

All faculty, instructors and GTA's should refer to section F70-77 of the University Handbook to make sure they are in compliance with the final exam policy at http://www.k-state.edu/academicpersonnel/fhbook/fhsecf.html

I have asked director of academic personnel Susana Valdovinos (785-532-4392, svaldovi@k-state.edu) to answer any questions you may have about this.

Finally, the All-University Open House is scheduled for Saturday, April 20. As usual, classes will be canceled starting at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19. If instances arise where rescheduling in specialized classrooms or laboratory environments is not feasible, or canceling sections of a multi-section course would result in the loss of an entire class day, then instructor prerogative will determine whether classes will be canceled. In these cases, faculty members choosing to hold classes at or after 2:30 p.m. must notify room scheduling at 785-532-1712 at the start of the spring semester to ensure that their classrooms are available. This determination should be clearly noted on the course syllabus handed out at the beginning of the semester so that students are aware of this far in advance of open house.

I wish you a wonderful and productive spring 2013 academic term.

Best regards,

April C. Mason, Ph.D.
