First quarter sales tax rate changed to 8.05 percent

Departments selling products or services, please note the change in the sales tax rate. The one-half of one percent (.5 percent) city of Manhattan (in Riley County) sales tax levied by Resolution No. 032504-10 expired Dec. 31, 2012. The one-half of one percent (.5 percent) sales tax levy approved in the Nov. 6, 2012, general election will not take effect until April 1.
Therefore, during the first quarter — January through March — of 2013, the effective sales tax rate is 8.05 percent. The sales tax rate will increase to 8.55 percent starting April 1.
