Leadership studies faculty, students participate in 14th annual International Leadership Association Conference

Faculty and students from Kansas State University’s School of Leadership Studies participated in the 14th annual International Leadership Association conference. This year’s conference was in Denver, Colo., Oct. 24-27. Faculty members involved in this conference included:

Irma O’Dell, associate professor, presented a poster titled “Bridging the Gap between Pre-College and In-College Involvement.”

 Kerry Priest, assistant professor, was a co-presenter in the preconference session, “Experiencing Appreciative Inquiry: Leaders Building Bridges for the Greater Good,” and co-presenter for “Learning Communities: Bridging Leadership Classrooms and Contexts.”  

Mary Tolar, director of the School of Leadership Studies, served as a panel member for the conference session, “Hear all about it: The New York Times in Leadership Project,” a panel chair for “Bridging the Divide: Where is Civic Leadership?” and presented the poster “Learning Leadership through International Service-Learning.” 

Andrew Wefald, assistant professor, was a panel member in the conference session, “Leadership Capstone and Practica: Sharing Ideas to enhance Experiential Learning.”

Eight students from the School of Leadership Studies competed in the annual student case competition during the ILA conference. The student teams included:  

Kara Cavalli, sophomore in elementary education; Grant Goodack, senior in economics; Jamilah Watkins, sophomore in chemistry; and Magen Witcher, sophomore in biology, gave the poster presentation, “Purpose-Driven Performance: Addressing Motivation and Structure in Early Education through Termination, Staff Development and Staff Accountability.”

Mark Wasinger, junior in management; Ashley Wooten, junior in political science; Meredith Mueller, senior in fine arts; and Brandy Tholstrup, senior in athletic training, gave the poster presentation, “Reevaluating Conflict Management: Building a Bridge to High Performance in the Workplace using Adaptive Leadership.”
