Children's literature scholars present research in Australia

Three English professors presented their work at the 20th Biennial Congress of the International Research Society for Children's Literature at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, July 4-8.

Philip Nel, professor of English, presented "Erasing Race to Keep Kids Safe?: The Ideological Effects of Bowdlerizing Children's Literature." Karin Westman, associate professor and department head of English, presented "New Plots for Old: Terry Pratchett, Metafiction, and the Sympathetic Imagination," and Naomi Wood, associate professor of English, presented "Violence and the Sacred: Mothers in Harry Potter."
