"Avenue Q," a detour into comedy and Broadway music, is the next production in Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series.

The show will be performed at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in McCain Auditorium.

"Avenue Q" is the story of a bright-eyed college graduate named Princeton who moves to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q, an area full of nice but interesting characters. Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

"This is definitely a show every person transitioning to adulthood should see," said Todd Holmberg, director of McCain Auditorium. "It examines not the mid-life crisis, but the quarter-life crisis all young people learn and grow from."

The production is the 2004 Tony Award winner for best musical, best score and best book, and a 2003 nominee for the Outer Critics Circle award for outstanding off-Broadway musical.

"Avenue Q" features a cast of people and puppets who relay their story in a smart, entertaining and risque way. Full of mature content, the performance is not appropriate for children under 13 years of age.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $14.50 for K-State students and $29 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military, and children are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. More information is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.
