Charney to share innovative teaching ideas in Nov. 8 presentation

Mick Charney, associate professor of architecture, will share his innovative teaching ideas on developing written communication skills from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Hemisphere Room in Hale Library.
Charney’s presentation is, “Hint Fiction and Vivid Grammar: Quick and Easy Ways to Jump-Start Writing.”
With employers routinely naming soft skills as one of the top attributes that they seek when hiring college graduates, we all have a responsibility to integrate the development of sound communications skills into our courses — regardless of the subject being taught. If you are looking for some novel ways to engage students in developing written communications skills, come learn how hint fiction and vivid grammar can jump-start your efforts. This presentation was so well received at a recent Lilly Conference that it garnered perfect evaluation scores by peers in attendance. You will not want to miss Charney’s ideas.
Charney regularly teaches Kansas State introductory courses and seminars on the history of the designed environment. He has conducted workshops and presented papers at various national and international teaching conferences, dealing with subjects such as religious literacy, social media in the classroom, and difficult classroom dialogues. A recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the K-State Presidential Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching, Charney is also an Honorary Walt Disney Imagineer.
