K-Staters and local community set to present at fourth edition of Talk20MHK

Submitted by Kayla Savage

Four K-State experts and two local enthusiasts will share their knowledge, stories and skills with the Manhattan community at Talk20MHK from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Manhattan Public Library auditorium, 629 Poyntz Ave. The event is free and open to all ages.

Talk20MHK is a collaborative project between UFM Community Learning Center and Manhattan Public Library to build strong community connections by giving individuals a platform to share various topics with others in the community. Two events will take place each year, one in March and one in September.

The speakers will each give a dynamic presentation featuring 20 PowerPoint slides, speaking for 20 seconds on each slide. The audience will have a chance to ask questions and visit with the speakers after the presentations.

The following individuals are March 2019 Talk20MHK presenters; included are their topics:

  • Lauren Holmes Larry: "What is Sustainability? How do we make it Accessible?"
  • Jacob Miller, graduate student in communication studies: "My Kansas Roots."
  • Deborah Murray, instructor of English: "Caregiver? Energize Yourself Through Creativity."
  • KelLee Parr: "Searching and Documenting One’s Family History."
  • Elsa Valarezo de Ireton, graduate of GoTeacher program: "Being an Immigrant in The Little Apple."
  • Laura Widenor, course quality coordinator for K-State Global Campus: "Turtles Can Run Too."

The master of ceremonies for the event is Daniel Ireton, associate professor at Hale Library and first edition Talk20MHK presenter.
