Kinesiology professor gives invited presentation at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies

Submitted by David Dzewaltowski

David Dzewaltowski, professor and department head of kinesiology, gave an invited presentation at the Keck Center of the National Academies on Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C.

His presentation was titled "Improving Physical Activity Behavior Settings in the School Environment for Youth Development Outcomes." Dzewaltowski also responded to the food and nutrition board committee on physical activity in the school environment questions regarding the current evidence to inform a new Institute of Medicine study. The study will identify key gaps in the current evidence and make recommendations for improving policies and programs for obesity prevention.

Charted under President Lincoln in 1863, National Academy of Sciences established the Institute of Medicine as its health arm to help those in government and the private sector make informed health decisions by providing evidence upon which they can rely.
