Another reason to be proud: Annual student campaign, K-State Proud, earns national award

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The Kansas State University Student Foundation is receiving national honors for the K-State Proud student campaign.

The foundation won the Outstanding Tried and True Program award from the Affiliated Student Advancement Programs division of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE. The annual awards competition recognizes outstanding student and adviser leadership and achievements, as well as outstanding student educational advancement programming by members of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's Affiliated Student Advancement Programs.

The award was presented at the recent annual convention of the Affiliated Student Advancement Programs division in Indianapolis, Ind. More than 665 students and advisers from 140 student advancement organizations attended the convention.

Sponsored by the Kansas State University Foundation, the Student Foundation encourages students to show their Wildcat pride by giving back to the university and helping their fellow students. Funds received through the K-State Proud program have been used to establish Student Opportunity Awards, which are given to students who are struggling financially. In the first six years of the campaign, students have raised more than $550,000.

"It was a humbling experience accepting the Outstanding Tried and True Program award at the CASE conference on behalf of Kansas State Student Foundation and the K-State Proud campaign," said Abby Brown, senior in entrepreneurship, Topeka, and president of the Kansas State University Student Foundation. "The exciting part was that the award truly was won by the entire student body through their passion for giving back to the university and keeping their peers on campus. It is a testimony to the culture of philanthropy on campus and proves once again the undisputed love and service-minded leaders in the K-State family. The award acts as a reminder that we must stay motivated and continue growing the campaign in order to keep making an impact on campus."

"Whether they are leading the K-State Proud student fundraising campaign or distributing student opportunity awards to students in need, members of the Kansas State University Student Foundation are advancing philanthropy at Kansas State University," said Mindy Weixelman, senior director of annual giving and student programs. "It is inspiring to see how students are fostering a culture of student philanthropy starting with prospective students all the way through to graduation. Each member has a heart for service combined with tremendous passion for our university making them valued philanthropic ambassadors for K-State."
