Important Hale Library updates: Services, locations, technology

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

Hale Library's first floor is scheduled to open in fall 2019. In the meantime, services have been relocated  across campus.

Perhaps more importantly, everyone who worked in Hale Library is still available. Academic Services librarians are happy to visit your classes, help convey information on available services, and teach research skills. Learn more about working with a librarian.

Please note, K-State faculty members can play a key role not only in making sure our students know about services, but also encouraging students to use them. If you work with students, share the following with them:

Help

Whether you're facing down a research assignment, trying to create a bibliography or seeking friendly assistance with other academic concerns, a librarian is available to help you via Ask a Librarian. Visit us in person or by phone, email or chat.

In addition, K-State Libraries' friendly peer research consultants will assist students with research assignments. They'll help brainstorm what information is needed for an assignment, explore existing research to focus a research topic, find credible sources and more. Schedule a free 30-minute session online.

In person, the primary spot to get assistance is Library Help in the K-State Student Union, right next to Radina's on the first floor. In addition, several branch libraries are located across the Manhattan campus, and they also offer assistance and great spaces to study:

      • Paul Weigel Library of Architecture, Planning & Design, 0081 Regnier Hall
      • Math/Physics Library, 105 Cardwell Hall
      • Veterinary Medical Library, 422 Trotter Hall

Need help with your password? Want assistance with a K-State application like KSIS, K-State Online or webmail? Struggling with another tech-related issue? Visit the IT Help Desk on the second floor of the K-State Student Union in the Cat's Pause Lounge. You can also contact them at 785-532-7722.

Technology

Need to use a video camera, lighting, or microphone? Want to borrow a laptop? Access them for free at equipment checkout, which is also located in the Cat's Pause Lounge.

Did you know that all K-Staters receive $20 of printing for the spring semester? Just use your Wildcat ID at one of 10 printing locations across campus. Find printers on the K-State map (click on the Hale Recovery layer).

If you need more advanced software, the Media Center is located in 1 Seaton Hall. A small sample of the software they offer includes Adobe Creative Cloud, Apple's Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Logic Pro X, AutoCAD and more.

Books and other materials

You can save money on textbooks by borrowing yours from Course Reserves. Visit the website to see if we have yours, and check them out at the location specified online. Most are available at Library Help at the Union.

If you loved using the hard copy periodicals that used to be located on the first floor of Hale Library, you can find all current issues in the Math/Physics Library.

Just because most of our Hale Library collection is in storage doesn't mean that we won't do everything in our power to get you the books, articles and more that you need. Simply use the free Interlibrary Loan service. Please note: we usually aren't able to provide textbooks through this service. If you need assistance with interlibrary loan, stop by any library help desk to get help making a request online.

And if you want to know what's going on inside Hale Library, follow our blog to stay up to date on the renovation.
