Anita Dille recognized as Professor of the Week

Submitted by Faculty Senate

Anita Dille, professor of weed ecology and assistant head for teaching in the agronomy department, was named Professor of the Week.

Dille's teaching responsibilities include three undergraduate courses, namely Weed Science, Integrated Weed Management, and Agronomy Capstone Experience, as well as a graduate course in Advanced Weed Ecology. She regularly advises undergraduate students in agronomy and mentors master's and doctoral graduate students in weed science. She has coached award-winning K-State undergraduate and graduate students and teams in the Collegiate Weed Science contests hosted each summer for 19 years. Over the past five years, K-State has had the No. 1 or 2 undergraduate team every year, with individual winners placing in the top three each year. The university also has had the No. 1 or 2 graduate team in three out of five years, with individual winners placing in the top three each year.

Her research is focused on studying the biology of weed species, their competitive impacts on crops, and the use of cover crops for weed management. Dille recently served as president of the North Central Weed Science Society in 2016.

Dille is highly recognized for her excellence in teaching and research, including receipt of the 2011 North Central Weed Science Society Distinguished Education Award, the 2011 Gamma Sigma Delta Outstanding Teaching Award, 2011 Commerce Bank Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, 2010 NACTA Teacher Fellow, and the 2018 Weed Science Society of America Outstanding Teacher Award.

The Professor of the Week recognition is coordinated by Faculty Senate, the president's office, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing. Recipients are faculty members selected by Faculty Senate caucuses. Those selected are provided tickets to a men's home basketball game of their choosing and are recognized during halftime. This is just a small token of appreciation for those who teach at K-State.

Dille was recognized at the Jan. 9 home game.
