Blake Abbe leaving K-State

Submitted by Tara Fronce

Blake Abbe, assistant vice president for university risk and compliance officer, resigned from Kansas State University on Dec. 21 to become the chief compliance and risk officer at Baylor University. Abbe joined K-State in March 2018 as the university's first assistant vice president for university risk and compliance officer.

Abbe was instrumental in coordinating the insurance claim process following the fire in Hale Library. He also developed an enterprise risk and compliance framework and was involved with several task forces to improve university training and international travel.

"We thank Blake for his service to Kansas State University and wish him all the best in his new position," said Cindy Bontrager, vice president for administration and finance. "Blake came to K-State at a critical time with the Hale Library fire and we appreciate his efforts to coordinate the complex insurance process."

A national search for a new assistant vice president for university risk and compliance officer will be initiated in January. Until a replacement is hired, insurance- and travel insurance-related questions should be directed to Jim Bach at jbach@k-state.edu, research-related risk and compliance questions should be directed to Cheryl Doerr at 785-532-3224 and all other risk- and compliance-related questions should be directed to the Office of General Counsel at 785-532-5730. Any other questions or concerns can be directed to the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance at 785-532-6226.
