K-State publications showcased at Western Historical Association conference

Submitted by Maggie Cody

The Online Journal of Rural Research and Policy and the Kansas History: Journal of the Central Plains were part of the Western Historical Association conference, hosted Oct. 17-20 in San Antonio. Journal and book exhibits at professional conferences promote the affiliated university, boost circulation and generate high-quality article submissions from scholars around the country. This year's conference attracted more than 900 registrants.

The Online Journal of Rural Research and Policy, edited by Bonnie Lynn-Sherow, director of the Chapman Center for Rural Studies, publishes academic and community-based research, commentary and policy articles focused on the Great Plains with the aim to improve access to information that promotes decision-making to enhance rural people and places.

The award-winning Kansas History: Journal of the Central Plains, managed and edited by James Sherow, university distinguished professor of history, publishes scholarly articles, edited documents, and other materials that contribute to an understanding of the history and cultural heritage of Kansas and the Central Plains.

Established in 1961, the Western Historical Association seeks to promote the study of the North American West. The association's office is in the history department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and has more than 1,100 active members. Its annual conference is attended by scholars, writers, nonprofits, publishers and professionals from around the world.
