ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series presents Nancy Lee Peluso

The Advance Distinguished Lecture Series and Audrey Joslin, assistant professor of geography, will host Nancy Lee Peluso, Henry J. Vaux distinguished professor of forest policy in the environmental science, policy and management department at the University of California, Berkeley.

Peluso will present "From Political Forests to Remittance Forests: Migration and Plantations in Indonesia" at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union.

Peluso is a leading social scientist, examining human-environment relations and natural resource control. With expertise in political ecology, her work addresses questions of property rights and access to resources, forest policy and politics, histories of land use change, and agrarian and environmental violence. Her work is currently focused in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand on the formation of "political forests." She is the author or co-author of a book and more than 60 articles and book chapters, co-edited three books, and has been recognized through numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship for the Social Sciences, U.S. and Canada. Her research has been supported by the Fulbright program, the National Science Foundation, the Humanities Research Institute and other prestigious institutions.
