Fulbright distinguished chair from Australia to give 'Fungi on the Move' presentation today

Submitted by Mary K. Pyle

Brett Summerell, director of science at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney and K-State adjunct professor in plant pathology, will present "Fungi on the Move — The Impact of Plant Pathogens Moving Into and Out of Natural Ecosystems," at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in 1018 Throckmorton Hall.

Summerell has been a visitor to the plant pathology department at K-State since the mid-1990s. This will be his first formal seminar other than those he gives every year as a part of the Fusarium Laboratory Workshop.

Summerell is spending six months at K-State as a Fulbright distinguished chair in agriculture and life sciences. He is working with his K-State host, John Leslie, university distinguished professor of plant pathology, on a revision of their book, "The Fusarium Laboratory Manual," which has become the standard worldwide in this field.

"Kansas State is excited to feature someone of Brett Summerell's caliber here on our campus," Leslie said. "We are pleased to be presenting an additional Australian Fulbright Commission scholar on our campus to educate and inform our university community of research initiatives being conducted by the plant pathology department."

"His seminar today will touch on major issues in plant biology and plant pathology as well as some challenging issues that are common between the U.S. and Australia," Leslie said.

Summerell will be in Manhattan until mid-December and can be contacted via his K-State email at BASummer@k-state.edu
