'Inclusion for All' is theme of College of Education’s 2018 Education Symposium
Registration is open for the College of Education's 2018 Education Symposium, a professional development day planned by students for students.
This year's theme, "Dimensions of Diversity: Inclusion for All," is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in the K-State Student Union. David L. Griffin Sr., emeritus assistant dean, will provide opening remarks as the distinguished speaker for the daylong event. Attendees can participate in a number of breakout sessions throughout the morning and afternoon, and the group will reconvene for two important activities.
The Hause Creativity Lecture, named in memory of faculty member Rich Hause, will be at 10:30 a.m. featuring an engaging presentation by the Kansas Teachers of the Year. At 1 p.m., attendees will view the initial screening of the college's 2018 documentary "Refuge in the Heartland." The film, which focuses on the Wichita school district, weaves together the complex international system and local networks needed to resettle refugees and addresses what that ultimately means for local schools and educators.
"Diversity is a recurring theme in society and one that directly impacts classrooms," said Ana Mendonca, graduate student and event coordinator. "Between our EDCAT initiatives — the A stands for Advocacy — the documentary and the outstanding breakout sessions, I believe this will be one of our most powerful and informative Education Symposiums."
