K-State Master of Public Administration program earns NASPAA accreditation

Submitted by Allison Kuehne

Kansas State University's Master of Public Administration program has earned reaccreditation by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration, or NASPAA.

The program was notified July 30 that the association's accrediting commission, the Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation, or COPRA, found the program to be in substantial conformance with NASPAA standards. NASPAA's accreditation process, driven by public service values, is mission and outcomes-based. NASPAA accreditation is considered the quality benchmark of graduate public service programs. It provides a peer review quality assurance process for graduate-level, master's degree programs in public policy, affairs and administration. The K-State Master of Public Administration program has been accredited by NASPAA/COPRA since 1990.

"We are proud of NASPAA's continued accreditation of our program," said Brianne Heidbreder, director of the program. "It speaks to the quality of our faculty, students and alumni."

The Master of Public Administration degree at K-State prepares students to serve the public interest and establish themselves as civic leaders. The program emphasizes a theoretically informed and research-driven skills-based approach to learning. It is designed to equip students for the challenges of work in the public and nonprofit sectors. The Master of Public Administration also is offered as part of a concurrent degree program that is available to undergraduate students who are majors in political science.
