Stop the Bleed training offered

The K-State Police Department will teach students, faculty and staff specific lifesaving bleeding control skills during two different training courses: Stop the Bleed and Stop the Bleed Train-the-Trainer.
No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, therefore it is important to quickly stop the blood loss. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care. According to a recent National Academies of Science study, trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under age 46. Stop the Bleed training teaches you proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use your hands, dressings and tourniquets to save someone's life or your own.
Stop the Bleed training, EHS101, will be offered from 3-5 p.m. Friday, July 27, in the Edwards Hall commons area.
Stop the Bleed Train-the-Trainer teaches people with a medical background — e.g. former military medics, certified EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians, certified athletic trainers and veterinarians — how to teach proper bleeding control techniques, including the use of hands, dressings and tourniquets, to the public. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to teach these lifesaving skills to other members of their department and the wider K-State community.
Stop the Bleed Train-the-Trainer, EHS102, will be offered from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Edwards Hall commons area.
