K-State Alumni Association breaks records in fiscal year 2012
Fiscal year 2012 was another banner year for the K-State Alumni Association as K-State graduates, friends and students continued to break records through their attendance and support of association-sponsored events and programs.
Building on three consecutive years of steady increase through involvement in alumni activities, the association broke records in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, with more than 90,000 K-State family members and friends participating in approximately 1,000 association activities offered around the nation and the world. The increase is nearly 10 percent over the prior year’s record, and when including participation at the 2012 Cotton Bowl festivities the association’s involvement rate increased by nearly 40 percent over the prior year.
"One of the benefits of the alumni association is to provide members and friends with opportunities to network and stay engaged with the university," said Todd Johnson, past chairman of the K-State Alumni Association board of directors. "Clearly, with everyone’s busy schedules and with record levels of participation, we are hitting the mark with the types of events and activities that our constituents enjoy and will support. It speaks highly of the K-State family loyalty and we are pleased with the support."
In addition to offering events that link K-Staters for life, the alumni association also supports a strategic initiative to enhance the K-State student experience by providing scholarships. Fiscal year 2012 was another record year with alumni and friends providing funds that enabled the association to pay more than $228,000 in scholarships to K-State students. Through the generosity of its many constituents, the alumni association has been able to increase its scholarship funding by 37 percent over the past four years.
"We are very pleased with the significant accomplishments and sustained growth that the association has achieved not only over the past year but over the past several years," said Amy Button Renz, alumni association president and CEO. "Nearly 40,000 members strong, the K-State Alumni Association, for 16 consecutive years, continues to be ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 for percentage of graduates who are members. We couldn’t do it without the support, talents and hard work from the board and the staff. They all deserve credit for the association’s continued success."
This fall, the K-State Alumni Association will celebrate another milestone as it observes the 10th anniversary of the Alumni Center. During its 138-year history, the alumni association has grown from a staff of a few people housed in rented office space to a staff of 32 who are at home in a distinguished and functional 52,000 square foot facility. The Alumni Center, funded by more than 1,500 private donations, is located at the gateway of the university and serves as home to all alumni members visiting the campus.
Established in 1874, the K-State Alumni Association is dedicated to providing lifelong connections, programs and services for its nearly 40,000 members. Alumni programs include reunions, student recruitment and scholarships, pregame events, career services, legislative advocacy, awards programs, travel opportunities and programs for K-Staters worldwide.
