Pink and Purple Polyester Party raises $12,000 for cancer research at Kansas State University

By Communications and Marketing

Live disco music, retro costumes and decorated bras were the highlights of the seventh annual Pink and Purple Polyester Party April 6. But the main goal of the event was to raise money for cancer research at Kansas State University.

The party, which was presented by CivicPlus, raised more than $12,000 for the university's Johnson Cancer Research Center.

"We are very grateful to the Pink and Purple Polyester Party planning committee for their hard work on this party, which is so fun you almost forget it's a fundraiser," said Marcia Locke, communications and outreach coordinator for the Johnson Cancer Research Center. "We're very grateful to major sponsor CivicPlus for making the party possible, and to all the sponsors and attendees whose support greatly impacts our cancer research and education programs."

The party featured a live performance by Kansas City band Disco Dick and the Mirrorballs, which kept the dance floor crowded all night. Other amusements included a retro costume contest, the Off the Hook bra art contest and fashion show, and a fun photo station.

Photos of the party are available in an album on Facebook.

The party is organized by a group of mostly local business owners including party founder, Dave Lewis, Manhattan, radio program director, K-State sports public address announcer and owner of Dave Lewis Entertainment. It celebrates the life of his late wife, Elena, who died of breast cancer in 2006.

The eighth annual Pink and Purple Polyester Party will be Friday, April 5, 2019.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center supports and advances cancer research and education at Kansas State University. Its programs are made possible by private donations. Information is at cancer.k-state.edu.
