E-Learning Best Practices course has many online teaching resources for faculty

Submitted by Shalin Hai-Jew

Do you want to know how to create telepresence early in a course to encourage student participation? Would you like to see how an online module teaches lab diagnostics? Do you want to see effective videos used by other faculty? Are you interested in sampling some mobile-device learning objects? Online learning study guides? Would you like to experience a creative portfolio design assessment?

The above resources and more are available anytime for K-State faculty perusal in the E-Learning Best Practices course in K-State Online. All faculty/staff and GTAs are welcome to browse through these teaching resources and discover new ideas and tools.

K-State has many faculty with years of professional experiences teaching online in a number of different domains. A number of them contributed their modules, digital learning objects, syllabi, and other course materials for an E-Learning Best Practices course, which was created to share teaching and learning ideas with other faculty.

The contents are from real courses and have been tested and refined in the classroom. This sample course is organized into the following sections:

1.  Course Information, Policies and Requirements

2.  Course Content and Technology Usage

3.  Learner Interactions

4.  Learner Support

5. Assessment and Evaluation

This course also offers some downloadable resources for online course development. Another folder contains links to best practices outside of K-State.

To access this K-State Online course, contact one of the instructional designers – Swasati Mukherjee, swasatim@k-state.edu; Ben Ward, bward@k-state.edu; or Shalin Hai-Jew, shalin@k-state.edu – to get signed into the course. This course is a continuing or perennial course, so it continues through the various academic terms.

Ideas for how to improve this sample course are welcome. The course content will evolve as faculty contribute their teaching and learning resources.
