Communication studies department to host senior colloquium research presentations

By Melissa Winkel

The communication studies department invites all K-State students, faculty and staff to attend senior colloquium research presentations from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the Nichols Hall atrium.

Students who will present at the event include Aly Acevedo, Ashley Anderson, Hannah Cook, Qwadeyza Cortez, Heidi Forland, Haley Gensure, Andre Greer, Grace Gregory, Scott Heise, Alison Keith, Hannah Maddy, Megan Malm, Molly McCord, Adam McKinney, Sam Moomaw, Miranda Moore, Abigail Newton, Alex Parr, Molly Pyle, Sarah Steiner, Taylor Thompson, Hunter Vance and Callie White.

The culminating work of their undergraduate careers within the major, the poster session allows students to share the results of their semesterlong projects with the campus community. During the session, students will discuss their work and answer questions.

As a requirement for graduation, all communication studies majors design and carry out an original project to address a problem of human communication. "In a data-driven world, the skills gained through undergraduate research gives communication studies majors a leg up, giving them valuable experience that will help them in their careers and in their communities," notes Natalie Pennington, communication studies assistant professor.

"Fundamentally, research is about asking good questions," said Colene J. Lind, communication studies assistant professor and course instructor. "Throughout the major and culminating in this capstone, we aim to develop in students the skills and confidence to ask questions all their lives."
