Summer intersession course on sexual violence

Do you need an elective? Do you want to complete a three credits hour course in just two weeks? Try FSHS 300 ZF: Sexual Violence. This class will be May 14 through June 1. 

The course will focus on sexual violence, one of the most pervasive and serious public health issues, with widespread implications for victims/survivors, families, and communities. Attitudes, what is considered to be common knowledge, media messages, and myths and misconceptions regarding sexual violence will be explored. Students will learn how to examine and discuss sexual violence systemically and the impact on individuals, families and communities. This course will also examine the intersection between stalking and sexual assault.

This course will discuss findings on sexual violence victimization across diverse groups, examining the intersections of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and disability status, and special topics affecting women globally will be introduced. Students also will develop an awareness of beginning interventions and available resources.
