April 12 Engagement Symposium 'Powerful Dialogue: Engaging Community Issues in Polarizing Times'

Submitted by Donna Schenck-Hamlin

K-State's Center for Engagement and Community Development will host its annual Engagement Symposium on Thursday, April 12, in the K-State Student Union.

"Powerful Dialogue: Engaging Community Issues in Polarizing Times" features a variety of interactive workshops and discussions on how K-State engages with community partners in problem-solving across divisions.

Where community relations are themselves the issue, presenters on the Kitchen Table Conversations, Courageous Conversations and Project Race describe distinct models for exploring differences. Health and health equity are key focus points of sessions that address communities united by economic displacement, military service and environmental change. Migration is the focus of a conversation at the Beach Museum of Art and a report on emerging majority-minority populations in Kansas.

Everyone is encouraged to find a session of interest in the program and drop in as their schedule allows. However, due to limited space, registration is recommended for the morning keynote speech, "From Wicked People to Wicked Problems" and for the mid-day workshop on the Intercultural Development Curriculum.
