Be prepared, stay informed during severe weather season

Submitted by Division of Communications and Marketing

As Kansas State University prepares for severe weather season, take some time to familiarize yourself with the university's severe weather procedures and alert systems.

K-State administrators encourage students, employees and parents to use weather apps and local news to stay informed of Kansas' frequently changing and potentially severe weather such as tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding.

If impending danger threatens one of the university's campuses, the K-State police or communications team will use K-State Alerts to send notifications through email, websites, social media, text messages and automated phone calls for those who have signed up on the university's Connect website. K-State students, faculty and staff can modify their notification options by selecting the "K-State Alerts" tab under the Profile section.

K-State Alerts also has opt-in text message notifications for campus guests and non-K-Staters. Visitors can text "KSTATEVISITOR" to 67283 to receive text messages about emergency situations at all three campuses. Departments are encouraged to share this information with campus visitors for upcoming events, conferences, workshops, etc.

The LiveSafe app offers additional safety resources and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or Google Play.

The safety of all K-Staters and campus visitors is a primary concern of the university. Please stay informed and safe this spring.
