The Writing Center is open for the spring term

Submitted by Cydney Alexis

The Writing Center is open for the spring semester. Please encourage all of your students to utilize this free service.

• Meet with a writing consultant: Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for one hour per week of free tutoring from a trained writing consultant. We tutor writing in all disciplines and genres, including honors projects, presentations, posters, lab reports and dissertations. Students can come to the center to brainstorm, get help with understanding an assignment, or to talk through a piece of writing. We offer appointments in the Writing Center, Room 122D of the English/Counseling Services Building; at various satellite locations such as Hale Library Alcove 103 and Radina's in Aggieville; and online. Students can sign up for appointments online or walk in.

• Outreach to faculty and staff courses and organizations: Writing Center staff are available to come to your class or organization to briefly discuss our services in a five-minute presentation; to collaborate on a longer outreach session for your class; or to consult on assignment, course, and syllabus design. To request our services, please fill out the spring outreach request form.

• Help us hire students: Do you know an undergraduate student who is a strong writer and communicator? We hire undergraduate students in all disciplines and seek students with unique perspectives and team player attitudes. Interested students must take English 500, Writing Center Theory and Practice, which is available every fall. Contact Cydney Alexis at calexis@k-state.edu for more information.

• Graduate Student Writing Retreat: This May intersession, the Writing Center, with sponsorship from the English department and Graduate School, will offer its annual two-week Graduate Student Writing Retreat. Please stay tuned for future announcements, which will run in K-State Today, or contact Cydney Alexis at calexis@k-state.edu for more information.
