Sixth national Rural Grocery Summit call for presentations/abstracts

Submitted by David Procter

On behalf of K-State's Rural Grocery Initiative, the Center for Engagement and Community Development invites K-Staters to submit an abstract for a paper or panel presentation to the sixth national Rural Grocery Summit, June 25-26, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan.

Local grocery stores are vital to rural America. These stores provide essential jobs and taxes. They are an important source of nutrition and health. Grocery stores are where we meet friends, catch up on the latest news and stay connected. Like schools, post offices and cafes, grocery stores are community assets that attract and retain citizens. A thriving local grocery store is a sign of a healthy rural community. Yet, rural citizens continue to lose access to healthy foods and their rural grocery stores continue to struggle.

We are interested in receiving abstracts regarding issues related to rural grocery operations, the importance of these businesses to rural America, and rural healthy food access. The deadline to submit abstracts is Feb. 1.

For more information regarding submissions and a more detailed list of suggested paper or panel topic areas, visit the conference website
