Eighteen communication studies majors to present work at poster session Dec. 14

Submitted by Melissa Winkel

The communication studies department invites all students, faculty and staff to attend communication studies majors' senior colloquium research presentations from noon to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Nichols Hall atrium.

Seniors who will present their work include John Balthazor, Kamaron Davis, Paige Decker, Joshua Ethier, Elizabeth Golay, Chase Holthaus, Cassandra Kelly, Miranda Larkin, Sadie Manley, Paige Nelson, Dalton Risner, Lauren Rockhold, Jesse Roesch, Leah Schirber, Jacob Sims, Logan Stacer, Ronnie Wallden and Jenna Wilson.

The culminating work of their undergraduate careers within the major, the poster session allows students to share the results of their semesterlong projects with the campus community. During the session, students will discuss their work and answer questions.

As a requirement for graduation, all communication studies majors design and carry out an original project to address a problem of human communication.

"In a data-driven world, the skills gained through undergraduate research give communication majors a leg up, giving them valuable experience that will help them in their careers and in their communities," said Greg Paul interim department head for communication studies.

"Fundamentally, research is about asking good questions," said Colene J. Lind, assistant professor and course instructor of communication studies. "Throughout the major and culminating in this capstone, we aim to develop in students the skills and confidence to ask questions all their lives."
