Consultants visiting K-State Polytechnic Tuesday to further Global Aeronautics Initiative

Submitted by Kimberly Bird

The global aeronautics initiative for Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus is taking an important step forward to continue the development process.

K-State Polytechnic and community partners have engaged the services of Renaissance Strategic Advisors, a leading consulting firm in the aerospace, defense, space, intelligence and government services industries. The advisors will conduct a process and report to assist K-State Polytechnic and the Salina community in understanding global market trends in manned and unmanned aeronautics. This partnership will help the global aeronautics initiative for the university and community.

Consultants will be on campus Tuesday, Nov. 14, to begin the study. The process is expected to involve a thorough review and understanding of the unique attributes of K-State Polytechnic's capabilities and assets in manned and unmanned aeronautics and the assets of the Salina region. Meetings are scheduled with units that will have a key role in the initiative moving forward.

The global aeronautics initiative was developed because of K-State Polytechnic's unique ability to leverage the convergence of rapid technological advancements in manned and unmanned aeronautics, demand for advanced systems and processes from those systems, and educational opportunities due to the increasing demand for qualified and certified technical experts. The initiative aims to establish K-State Polytechnic as a global leader in this rapidly expanding market.

Establishing global leadership in this area requires specific strategic focus in an array of areas. The initiative will focus on strategies such as capacity building in all areas of aeronautics, curriculum development to support new and enhanced programs, corporate partnerships, advanced research and training, building global awareness of K-State Polytechnic as a respected aeronautics leader, and establishing a talent pipeline to keep recent graduates in Salina and attract new students to the community.

Partnering with K-State Polytechnic and Kansas State University in this initiative locally are the city of Salina, Saline County, Salina Airport Authority, Salina Chamber of Commerce and the Salina Community Economic Development Organization.
