Walk-in registration, door prizes for CHECK conference May 23-24
The 2012 Conference on Higher Education Computing in Kansas, or CHECK, is scheduled Wednesday-Thursday, May 23-24, at the K-State Student Union. More than 135 attendees have already registered for this networking opportunity that addresses current IT issues in higher education.
On-site, walk-in registration is still available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, and 7:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24, on the second floor of the K-State Student Union. The $90 fee covers all conference materials, Wednesday dinner, and Thursday continental breakfast and box lunch.
On May 23, door prizes including two wireless printers will be given away during dinner. Prior to lunch on May 24, an iPad, provided by EMC2, and a 32-inch TV, provided by NEC, will be given away. Attendees must be present to win.
K-State President Kirk Schulz will give the keynote on "IT and Higher Education," while Anthony Schlinsog, chief information technology officer for the state of Kansas, will present "State of the State IT".
Mobile-device applications are a hot topic this year, with three presentations:
- Bridging the gap for mobile devices
- Student mobile applications
- Instructional design strategies for mobile application training
Other topics on the agenda include:
- Free and open source software (F/OSS)
- The future of storage (ZFS and BTRFS)
- Selecting the next Learning Management System
- Migration to a hosted infrastructure
- Introduction to Kuali (open source alternatives to vendor-based admin systems)
- administrative issues of disaster recovery, risk management, project management, and identity management
