Student absence notification changes

Submitted by Laurel Moody

Student absence verifications from the Office of Student Life will have a different format beginning fall 2017. It will come attached as a PDF in an email generated by a program called Maxient. The student name will appear in the email subject, and the sender will be a staff member in the Office of Student Life.

K-State does not have a formal, universitywide excused absence policy. Absence policies are set individually by each instructor and are enforced according to their specific policies. The Office of Student Life can verify a student absence for more serious and ongoing absences such as emergencies and health issues. All academic accommodations are made at the discretion of each professor, as they deem appropriate. Absences notifications through the Office of Student Life are verified with documentation provided by the student.

This change in format will allow the office to verify absences more efficiently, which will be beneficial for both faculty and students. Faculty continue to be the leading referral source of students to the Office of Student Life, and we look forward to continuing to work with both faculty and staff members to best serve K-State students.

If you have any questions about an absence verification you receive, contact the Office of Student Life at 785-532-6432. If you have any concerns about a student, call the office or fill out a student of concern form on the Office of Student Life website.
