K-State student chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management places seventh in regional case competition

Six members of the Kansas State University student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, or SHRM, earned seventh place honors at the society's recent West Regional Conference Case Competition in Tigard, Oregon.
The competition, which saw the team face off against 20 universities from the west region, was designed to provide a realistic preview of the types of problems that students may eventually encounter in the workplace. The case study focused on a number of human resource and workplace issues that required strategic thinking, ethical decision-making, and strong leadership and presentation skills.
K-State's team included Courtney Kelly, junior in management, Leawood; Erica Modzelewski, senior in management, entrepreneurship and finance, Manhattan; Audrey Oswald, senior in management, Olathe; Austin Crowder, senior in management and entrepreneurship, Overland Park; Katie Walker, senior in management and marketing, Wichita; and Philip Wegman, sophomore in business, Taylor, Missouri.
"I am proud of the K-State SHRM team and the way they represented Kansas State University at the competition," said Valerie Barnett, instructor of management and Society for Human Resource Management advisor. "They worked hard to prepare, and did an excellent job of exhibiting their human resource management knowledge and expertise in the analysis of the case they were given."
The competition is in conjunction with the society's regional career summits, which are the premier student human resource conferences in the United States. Society for Human Resource Management career summits provide opportunities for students, faculty members and human resource professionals from around the country to network and learn from each other.
