ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series presents Fedor Malikov

Submitted by Tawny Ochs

The ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series and Natalia Rojkovskaia, associate professor of mathematics, will host Fedor Malikov, University of Southern California, at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, in 131 Cardwell Hall. Malikov will present "Strongly homotopy chiral algebroids."

Abstract: Algebras of differential operators are widely known to be important beyond the realm of partial differential equations, most notably in representation theory and mathematical approaches to conformal field theory. These algebras have an analogue in the world of vertex/chiral algebras; this analogue plays a similar role but is also related, rather unexpectedly, to characteristic classes on smooth varieties. In this talk, Malikov will explain an attempt to give a homotopically reasonable definition of such algebras in the case of a complete intersection in affine space.
