K-State Salina engineering technology professor appointed to Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Raju Dandu

Raju Dandu, professor of mechanical engineering technology at Kansas State University Salina, has been appointed as a member of the 2012-2013 ABET Technology Accreditation Commission by the ABET board of directors' executive committee.

As a commissioner, Dandu will act as team chair and is responsible for reviewing programs nationally and internationally, leads the visit team, supervises program evaluators, and is involved in approving the composition of visit team. He serves as the primary contact with the institution being evaluated and presents the visit team's findings to the ABET commission.

Dandu is the K-State Salina first faculty member to serve as a U.S. commissioner on the Technology Accreditation Commission

"I see this as a great honor and an opportunity to represent K-State Salina at the national level at the highly respected accreditation body ABET, which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation," he said.

ABET accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. The organization accredits more than 3,000 programs at more than 660 colleges and universities in 23 countries, providing specialized, programmatic accreditation that evaluates an individual program of study, rather than evaluating an institution as a whole.

Dandu has served as program evaluator on visit teams in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Peru and Kuwait representing American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He recently was elected as chair-elect for the Midwest Section of American Society of Engineering Education and serves as a board member of the Salina Area United Way.

Dandu has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from North Dakota State University and has been teaching in the areas of design, manufacturing, and industrial automation at K-State Salina since 1997.
