Marketing student receives Girls Who Illustrate Awesomeness scholarship from Next Day Animations

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

A K-State junior in marketing is the recipient of a scholarship for her work to inspire young women of color and make a difference in the Native American community.

Jael Whitney, Overland Park, is one of two recipients of a $750 Girls Who Illustrate Awesomeness scholarship from Next Day Animations. The scholarship is an opportunity for women of color who are actively working to change the world.

Whitney, a member of the Choctaw Nation, said receiving the scholarship aligns with her goal to continue helping the Native American community.

"I plan to continue my work in helping inspire positive change in the Native American community through cultural and business knowledge and I hope to help young women of color achieve their educational goals and inspire them to keep achieving," Whitney said.

Recipients of the scholarship must be young women of color who are currently enrolled or who will begin studies in the spring 2017 semester and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Whitney currently serves as secretary of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and president of the K-State Library Student Ambassadors. She also is a member of the Multicultural Business Student Association and is a study abroad advocate for the College of Business.
