Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, joining forces to host Sustainable Crop-Livestock Summit Jan. 9

Submitted by Joe Montgomery

The Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture are jointly hosting the Sustainable Crop-Livestock Summit from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in the K-State Alumni Center's Banquet Room.

The Sustainable Crop-Livestock Summit has been developed jointly and with the help of experts at the Food and Agriculture Organization and World Bank. The summit aims to highlight the opportunities — for researchers and other scientists — offered by the sustainable development agenda while engaging interested faculty. The summit also aims to facilitate synergy and collaboration between the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.

Featured speakers will be Pierre Gerber, senior livestock specialist for the World Bank Group, and Marjatta Eilitta, deputy director of the USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems.

Sustainable agriculture is a complex multidisciplinary subject with a range of contributing factors — with interactions and tradeoffs between these factors. Some scientists may not realize that their current research interests contribute to the goals of sustainable agriculture.

With the collective expertise across the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine there is enormous potential to work together to develop the science — and pull together existing science — to drive policies for implementation of sustainable crop-livestock systems in America and internationally.

The idea is for faculty to hear about this opportunity from key international partners, shape a collective response and network with colleagues.

To attend the summit, please register online.
