Openings remain for four faculty-led study abroad programs
The study abroad office still has openings for students interested in traveling abroad this winter on four different faculty-led programs. These opportunities give students international experience under the guidance of K-State faculty and within the comfort of a completely planned itinerary and fellow Wildcats as travel companions.
Please help us spread the word by talking to any students you think may be interested in gaining international experience. The programs with space still available are:
Special Topics - Mass Communication: Ecuador and Galapagos Islands, MC 690
Joye Gordon, associate professor of journalism and mass communications, will lead students in examining how scientific truths — especially topics of global warming and evolution — are socially constructed through media and communications. Applications accepted through Oct. 5.
Cross-Cultural Families in Mexico, FSHS 300 or FSHS 700
Roudi Nazarinia-Roy, assistant professor of arts, sciences and business, and Beth Shanholtzer, adviser in family studies and human services, will help students examine cross-cultural differences in defining and working with Mexican families to explore the students' own implicit and explicit perceptions of people who are different than themselves. Applications accepted through Oct. 13.
Cultural and Natural Resources in India, FOR 641
Ted Cable, professor of horticulture, forestry and recreation resources, and Barry Michie, director of international programs, will escort students as they explore the rich treasures of India, including the Amber Palace, Delhi Zoo, the Taj Mahal, wildlife parks and the National Museum in Delhi. Applications accepted through Sept. 30.
Natural Colors: Oaxaca, Mexico, AT 650
Sherry Haar, associate professor of apparel, textiles and interior design, will guide students through a discovery of the historical, cultural and artisan aspects of natural dyes and pigments in Oaxaca, Mexico, in addition to the practices and applications of natural dyes used in Oaxacan weaving and silk spinning. Applications accepted through Oct. 11.
