Fighting for a Cure shirt

Wildcats everywhere will unite in wearing the K-State Fighting for a Cure shirt to the home football game and elsewhere Saturday, Oct. 8, to honor the K-State family's cancer survivors and celebrate the university's cancer research, while also recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Join K-State football's first lady Sharon Snyder and the Snyder family, Emmy Award-winning actor and alumnus Eric Stonestreet, interim President Gen. Richard Myers, Band Director Frank Tracz, former K-State and Kansas City Chiefs football player Kevin Lockett and many others in celebrating the university's fight against cancer with a Fighting for a Cure shirt.

All proceeds from shirt sales benefit the Johnson Cancer Research Center, which directs hundreds of thousands of dollars in private gifts every year to Kansas State University's most promising cancer research projects and students. The shirt campaign has raised more than $20,000 for these efforts since 2014.

Shirts can be purchased for $20 at the Johnson Cancer Research Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, 1711 Claflin Road. The center also will ship shirts to people who order by phone at 785-532-6705. Shirts also are available at G. Thomas Jewelers, 419 Poyntz Ave.

In addition, the K-State Cancer Fighters student organization will sell shirts at the K-State Student Union from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 6.

A social media campaign promoting Fighting for a Cure Day kicked off Sept. 29. Supporters are encouraged to post photos of themselves wearing the shirt along with the hashtag #HelpKStateFightCancer. Photos from the 2014 and 2015 campaigns are on the center's Facebook page.
