Manhattan Municipal Band presents concert on June 14

Submitted by Don Linn

The Manhattan Municipal Band will present its weekly concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at City Park's Larry Norvell Band Shell.

The concert will include traditional marches "Colonel Bogey" and "King Cotton" as well as "Light Cavalry Overture."

A concert highlight will be the combined performance of the Municipal Band and more than 170 students attending the K-State Summer Band Camp conducted by Don Linn, the camp's director. The combined groups will perform "Courage March" and "Shorewood Overture." Also featured will be xylophone soloist Dan Haddad, K-State graduate student, performing "Xylophonia." K-State percussionists Alex Wimmer and Jack Donovan will join Haddad in performing "Serenade for a Picket Fence."

The band is sponsored by the city of Manhattan and the K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The concert will feature several guest and student conductors, including Alex Wimmer and Dan Haddad. The weekly concerts are free and open to the public.
