Submitted by Sarah Hancock

Austin W. Krehel, master's degree student in geology, was selected to participate in the Student Education Program jointly offered by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and ExxonMobil at the society's annual meeting in New Orleans in October.

The program was called "Multidisciplinary Subsurface Integration in Exploration and Production: 'Plates to Pores.'" The 2 1/2 days of lectures, discussions and exercises were designed to explore geophysics applications and help oil and gas companies prepare students to fill future vacancies as baby boomers reach retirement age. Topics included business processes, seismic theory and interpretation, 2-D mapping, seismic data acquisition and well/seismic ties.

Krehel was one of 40 student leaders selected to participate. His master's project focuses on application of 4-D seismic data analysis for monitoring CO2-based enhanced oil recovery Kansas. His major professor is Abdelmoneam Raef.

The students hailed from universities in the United States, Russia, China, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, Romania, Poland, Azerbaijan, United Kingdom, Egypt, Colombia, Argentina, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates. Read more about the program.
