Retirement reception Feb. 10 for Chuck Werring

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join housing and dining services from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Frith Community Center in the Jardine Apartments Community to wish Charles "Chuck" Werring congratulations on his retirement. Brief remarks will be at 4 p.m.

Werring, assistant vice president for student life and past director of housing and dining services, retired in February 2012 after a distinguished career that included leadership in taking the $100 million Jardine project from the drawing board to reality. Werring joined K-State in 1990 and was promoted to assistant vice president in 2005.

"I want to personally thank Dr. Werring for his leadership of our department," said Derek Jackson, director of housing and dining services. "As he retires he is leaving a legacy of care for the students and staff. He is a visionary who has helped shape our department, campus and the campus housing profession."

Werring received numerous awards and honors during his career, including the William B. Sweet Distinguished Service Award from the Upper Midwest Region-Association of College and University Housing Officers in 2007, and the James C. Grimm Leadership and Service Award in 2002 from the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International, which he has served in many leadership roles.

Werring is also the founder of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International STARS COLLEGE, which encourages and mentors undergraduate students in domestic and other countries who live in residence halls to seek a career in housing or other student affairs work.
