K-State Libraries' new resources for research

Submitted by Donna Ekart

In the past few months, K-State Libraries have purchased several new databases and journals of interest to faculty researchers in a variety of disciplines. Below are a few highlights of recent acquisitions.

  • SAGE Research Methods Online (SRMO): a tool designed to help users create research projects and understand the methods behind them. It includes more than 600 books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and the “Little Green Book” and “Little Blue Book” series. Journal articles and videos are also included.
  • Sabin Americana: based on Joseph Sabin’s comprehensive bibliography of works published between 1500 and 1926 on life and culture in North America. More than 29,000 full-text works are included. Formats include books, pamphlets, broadsides, and serials and cover topics ranging from Native Americans to agriculture; from slavery to abolition movements.
  • Early American Imprint Series: full text of books, pamphlets, broadsides, and other materials printed in the United States between 1639 and 1819. The collection is made up of two separate series; Series I: Evans, 1639-1800; and Series II: Shaw-Shoemaker, 1801-1819.
  • The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE): a journal dedicated to accelerating biological, medical, chemical and physical research by elucidating techniques through a combination of peer reviewed video and text.

All resources are accessible from multiple points on the Libraries’ website: via the catalog, and from either the databases or e-journals pages as appropriate. Many can be found linked from various class and subject guides as well. To receive instruction on using a new database for students in your courses or for a department or research group meeting, please fill out the instruction request form and a librarian will contact you.
