Chilled water expansion project construction update

Submitted by Jack Carlson

Chilled water expansion project update beginning Thursday, July 23:

• Claflin Road partial reopen: Claflin Road will reopen to as far as the easternmost driveway east of Umberger Hall. This will allow campus traffic to enter and exit campus from Denison Avenue, enabling staff and students to gain easier access to parking lots B13, north of Umberger Hall; A18, north of Bushnell Hall; A17, north of Waters Hall; and to the southern portion of the campus. The east end of Claflin Road access will remain the same with entry into parking lots A14, north of Haymaker Hall, an B1 and B2, east of Weber Hall.

• Intersection of Claflin Road and Mid-Campus Drive "four corners" closes: This will result in no northbound traffic on Mid-Campus Drive past the east driveway to parking lot A17, north of Waters Hall. Additionally, there will be no southbound traffic past the southernmost driveway out of parking lot B12 , west of Call Hall. Parking patrons will still be able to access parking lot B13, north of Umberger Hall and Dole Hall, plus access to Facilities compound, north of Dykstra Hall.

Please watch for fences, barricades and signs to help redirect traffic. We strive for and want a safe environment for our staff and students as well as our construction workers.

Work will continue at the middle portion of Claflin Road at the "four corners," 17th Street, Bosco Plaza, east of Beach Art Museum and the southern portion of Mid-Campus Drive west of Kedzie Hall and Calvin Hall. With the recent rains, unseasonably wet weather continues to delay our efforts to make up time. However, our contractors are making every effort to push up the schedule when placing pipe and restoring roads back to their original and intended conditions.

Construction maps are available. Click on the appropriate listed date to view the project's sequence of construction for the date you may be interested in. Routes for ADA are included if you have disability concerns. Please contact Andrea Blair at 785-532-6441 for assistance.

To find this information from K-State's main Web page, click on the orange box under the "News" section labeled "Construction and traffic update."

Please keep in mind these dates are estimates and may vary slightly as construction progresses and as weather cooperates with our work.

K-State facilities and the construction team continue to appreciate everyone's cooperation and patience as we navigate our lengthy walks around campus.
