Asbestos awareness for building occupants training offered July-Sept

Submitted by Human Capital Services, Learning and Development

The environmental health and safety department is offering Asbestos Awareness for Building Occupants, WTD166, to anyone interested in learning more about asbestos, health concerns associated with it and where it can be found on campus.

Sessions are offered in 11 Edwards Hall:

  • from 10:30-11:30 a.m. July 14
  • from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Aug. 6
  • from 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 25

Asbestos is most commonly found in buildings constructed before 1981. Asbestos can be discovered in ceilings, between floors, on plumbing, inside some doors, air ducts, floor tiles, glues and mastics, in parts of HVAC systems, as well as other architectural features. As long as the asbestos is not damaged, there is no hazard to building occupants. If the asbestos is damaged, the issue is resolved as quickly as possible to avoid endangering building occupants.

Arrangements also can be made with the instructor, Shane Garrett, to deliver the presentation to an individual department. Contact 785-532-5856 or email safety@k-state.edu with questions.

To register for any of these sessions, you can either sign up through HRIS self-service or send an email to learning-develop-hr@k-state.edu. When sending an email, please include your name, employee ID and the course title.
