Two entomologists reach top of the charts

Submitted by David Margolies

Two articles written by K-State entomologist have recently attracted significant attention. The 2011 publications, one by Ludek Zurek, associate professor of entomology, and one by Raymond Cloyd, professor of entomology, were the most accessed from their journals.

The article "Insects in confined swine operations carry a large antibiotic resistant and potentially virulent enterococcal community" (BMC Microbiology 11:23) by Zurek and his lab was the most accessed paper in BMC Microbiology in 2011 with 6,023 hits.

The article "Bounce fabric softener dryer sheets repel fungus gnat, Bradysia sp. nr. coprophila (Diptera: Sciaridae), adults" (HortScience 45:1830-1833) was the most downloaded article in HortScience four months in a row, and the most accessed article ever in any of the journals published by the American Society for Horticultural Science. Cloyd is the writer of the article.
