Professor emeritus Norma Cantu to discuss her book 'Canícula: Snapshots of a Girlhood in la Frontera'

Norma Cantu, professor emeritus, will discuss her book "Canícula: Snapshots of a Girlhood in la Frontera" at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, in 01 Leasure Hall.

Cantu is a professor in Latina/Latino Studies and English at University of Missouri-Kansas City, professor emeritus at the university of Texas San Antonio, and is the founder and director of the Society for the S​tudy of Gloria Anzaldúa. "Canícula: Snapshots of a Girlhood in la Frontera" is one of the books assigned to students in Díaz de Sabatés' classes this semester.

Two of the main subjects of study in Sabates' classes are the marginalization of women based on race, class and ethnicity, and the importance of life narratives as a feminist way of knowledge. Cantu's visit will cover both subjects. Students and faculty/staff are welcome to attend Cantu's presentations.

Cantu also will have an open discussion with students from 9:30-10:20 a.m. in 126 Leasure Hall.
